Inclement Weather Image

In the event of inclement weather, contest directors will agree upon whether or not the following procedures will go into effect, and a decision will be made on the Wednesday prior to the Texas State German Contest by 8 PM.

Schools unable to attend the Texas State German Contest due to above declared inclement weather may remotely submit students’ entries.

In the event that the site for contest, ie. Texas State University, shuts down due to inclement weather, ALL teachers may submit their top 2 students/entries for any registered event acceptable under the inclement weather remote submissions.

There will be NO REFUNDS due to inclement weather. Remote submissions are ONLY allowed when the director has declared that inclement weather procedures are in effect. Remote submissions will not be accepted simply due to students being unable to attend (for whatever reason)!

Acceptable remote submissions are:
1. All art events
2. All music events
3. All drama events
4. Oral testing – Directed Dialogue, Extemp. Speaking, Pair Discussion (via Skype/FaceTime ONLY)
5. All declamation events (via Skype/FaceTime ONLY)
6. Research Paper (via Turnitin.com)

Events that would be forfeited:
1. Sight Reading
2. All written tests
3. Scavenger Hunt
4. Pass Auf!

Instructions for Remote Submissions

Acceptable mediums for submission are Google Slides, Powerpoint, Prezi, Keynote, and Youtube or Vimeo; HOWEVER, all submissions must be shared as links – NO email attachments.

Arts: (IF you choose to submit arts via an electronic medium, please make sure the students include pictures of their receipts and identifying info, etc. AND include the event title in the way they save the project – ie. save project as “Bishop Lynch Club Album”)

Club Albums – Take the best pictures you can of the cover and each page and put them into one of the above acceptable presentational formats.

Crafts – Take as many pictures as possible (different angles) of the project, including backdrop and documentation and put them into one of the above acceptable presentational formats.

Digital Logo Design – Use one of the above acceptable presentational formats to upload your image.

Dolls – Same procedure as Crafts.

Gingerbread Houses – Same procedure as Crafts.

Needlework – Same procedure as Crafts.

Original Models – Same procedure as Crafts.

Photo Essay – Same procedure as Crafts.

Photography – Use one of the above acceptable presentational formats to upload a picture of the way the photo looks mounted, but also include the original picture file as a .pdf or .jpg or .gif or .tiff within the presentation.

Poster Design – Same procedure as Crafts.

Shirt Design – Same procedure as Crafts.

Video – Videos should have already been uploaded to Youtube or Vimeo according to the normal rules of entry. Include the link with your remote submission entry form.

Research Paper – Papers should already be submitted to turnitin.com prior to Saturday. The judges can read them from there.

Declamation & Oral Tests: (Students will have to show a photo ID before performing.)

Students qualifying in Poetry/Prose Reading, Poetry/Prose Memory, Directed Dialogue, Extemporaneous Speaking, and Pair Discussion will provide a phone number, email address, and/or Skype ID to be contacted via Skype or FaceTime. There will be 1-2 blocks of time that will be designated specifically for remote submissions, so students know when to be available. Those blocks of time will be posted prior to Saturday morning. Skype or FaceTime is the only acceptable remote format for these submissions. Sight Reading will not be possible, as we will not send a picture of the text for test security purposes.

Drama Events & Music Events:

You may submit Youtube/Vimeo links to videos of students performing their Chorus, Contemporary music, Einzelplattler, Folk dance, Polka band, Vocal solos, Duets, Puppet Shows, Skits, and Play. Alternately, especially for smaller groups, you may submit phone numbers for a Skype/FaceTime call to perform “live” for the judges. Videos of performances must be based on a single “take” under the same conditions as if they were performing at State. Teachers and students will be asked to attest that the video has not been edited, nor have multiple attempts been recorded before selecting their “best” one.

In the event inclement weather procedures are put into place, there will be a link to a form for you to list your remote entries and the links to their digital submissions.
